The under 13s won the cup on Saturday after a hard fought match with a very skilful Holywood team.
Aquinas were quicker from the off and their early pressure produced a penalty after five minutes. Captain, Joe Mellon, stepped up, stepped back, ran up and sent the ball into the back of the net.
This seemed to stare Holywood who had the best of most of the rest of the first half, with their pressure telling eventually with a fine shot slotted low and hard past blue’n’black keeper, Luke Cullinan.
Aquinas were a better force in the second half, dragging the game around again. The speed of Techin McGarvey tortured the Holywood back line and it was only just that he latched onto a great ball played in from the right to lash home and put us back in front again.
More Aquinas pressure brought a second penalty. Up stepped Captain Joe again and although the keeper guessed right and got down, the shot was too powerful and glided under him into the back of the net.
3 -2 on the night with scenes of great joy and celebration at the final whistle. A set of photos of the post match party has been put on the gallery.
Well done to the team – Captain Joe Mellon, Ronan Hamill, Luce Barr, Luke Cullinan, John Connor, Conall Breen, Lorcan Cushnahan, Tom Friel, Oscar Conlon, Michael Gorman, Matthew Lloyd, James McLaughlin, James and Rory O’Donoghue, Nicholas Wall and Techin McGarvey – and to the managers, Brian Friel and Neil Barr.
