What is the Mini Skills Soccer centre?
The Mini Skills Soccer Centre is exactly as the name suggests. It is a soccer centre (or Academy) that welcomes boys and girls from the age of 6 to 12 years old to learn new soccer skills, enhance those skills already learned, develop friendships and play soccer in a fun, non competitive way.
Why Non- Competative?
The whole purpose of the mini skills soccer centre is to give the children a “sport for life” that they will enjoy participating in no matter what their technical ability. The IFA in conjunction with UEFA are encouraging all clubs to develop this ethos so that all children can find a level that suits them in the game. Aquinas FC fully endorses this ethos and believes that there will be plenty of time for competitive football when the children get into their teenage years and beyond.
What is the connection with the IFA?
The IFA (Irish Football Association) is the governing body of the sport in Northern Ireland and is a leading decision making member with UEFA (European Governing Body). Aquinas FC, as one of the largest and most innovative youth soccer clubs in Northern Ireland has decided to embrace this and take a lead from them in order to develop not only the club but all our players. They will advise on best practice for player development and enhancement and can also advise on fiscal matters, ground development etc. Hopefully we will see this partnership grow as we as a club grow in the next few years

News
| Hello all, Just a quick note to welcome you all to this season mini skills soccer centre. Some boys have graduated from the centre to play 11 a side football whilst others will be moving on shortly to play in the new IFA mini games centre at Ballysillian. To those that are staying - a big welcome back and to those that are joining us for the first time can I extend a very warm hello! The centre will start on Sat 12 Sept 2009 at 09.30 and I would just like to explain a few do's and donts before it starts. Could all parents please make sure that their children are wearing trainers and NOT boots as we are playing on 2nd generation Astro turf and not only can boots rip the playing surface they can also cause a child to slip and hurt himself very badly. Please ensure your child has brought a drink with him. Please also remember that we cannot always allow for things like weather and if at any time we need to cancel mini soccer we will try to let all parents know in plenty of time. We may have to make a call on the weather on the day. We at Aquinas are a progressive club and are continually growing. We cannot continue this growth without the aid of you the parents. With this in mind if anyone would like to volunteer to help out with any aspect of the club please contact a club official ASAP. You do not need to have coached soccer before as we will give you all the help and support you need and put you through your IFA coaching courses. If coaching isnt your thing we are always looking volunteer administrators, team helpers etc. Lastly, as I am sure you can appreciate, all this comes at a cost! So I am also appealing to all parents if they know of a company or organisation that would be willing to sponsor the Mini Skills Soccer Centre or if you are in a position to help out financially please contact me to see what packages we can offer you. Just a reminder that the Aquinas MIni Skills Centre is the only centre that has full accredation from the Irish FA in the greater South Belfast area. Heres hoping for another successful year Yours in football Conor McCleave Mini Soccer Skills Centre |
